Rating: 4/5

The Chichic 6 Cavity DIY Rectangle Soap mold is a silicone mold set that is available for $6.99 for a single mold or $9.99 for a set of two.  It comes in a pink silicone that is dishwasher safe.  Each rectangle mold measures 3.1" x 2.2" x 1".  The silicone is food safe, meaning that this product is fantastic not only for soaps and things of that nature, but also for many baking, freezing, and food crafting items!  I got the set of two, which for the price is a great deal!  I'm looking forward to testing all of these ways of using these molds, but my main purpose of purchasing these was for ice molds.  I love having larger ice pieces for the purpose of coolers as well as icing my wrist. (I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome). The larger pieces take longer to melt, so it helps keep drinks cold!

While I tested these as ice molds, there are so many uses that these are really a fantastic addition to any kitchen. That being said, on to the ice testing!

I love that this item is silicone as it lends itself to so many different functions and also makes it easy to clean.  However, the lack of a solid base makes this a little difficult to use for ice. I had a hard time filling it and keeping it steady as I placed it in my freezer.  Let's just say I had to do some mopping up!  I can definitely foresee this as being an issue if you're moving anything you made until the item sets.  To alleviate this, I would place this item in the spot it will be staying in.  Alternatively, you can place it on a pan or some flat surface.  The unsteady bottom of it also made my ice have a pretty big slant to it, but again, the plate will cure that.  The bottom of the ice also had some bulges in it, which, again, would most likely be cured by the flat surface to transport it with.

Once I placed the ice in the freezer, it did take several hours to freeze, but being thicker, this is obviously to be expected.

Once I took it out of the freezer though, that's the part that showed what a great product this is!  The non-stick surface was fantastic to take the cubes out of! I did have to bend the silicone a bit, but it was very easy! Another plus is that the corners are very sharp, which would make very nice soap bars!

All of the ice cubes came out very nice, and the set of two will really help when I have large parties!  I'm also pretty excited come holiday time when these will make excellent homemade chocolate bars!  (Watch for an update in a couple of months! Bakers will also appreciate the size as a nice brownie, muffin, or mini loaf!

Overall, if you have any need for a tray like this, I would highly recommend this version! (I mean, its also pink so bonus!) You get two lovely molds with nice corners that are very non stick and easy to clean.  This is a great choice!

Multi-Purpose Credit Card Tool 10-1

Product: Multi-Purpose Credit Card Tool 10-1 by GERO

Get it Here

Rating: 4/5

I received this Multi-Purpose, 10 in 1 Credit Card Tool about ten days ago.  This is one of those products that you don't know you need until you absolutely need it.  What I love about this is that it's really easy to stick it in your purse/glove box/trunk/emergency kit and totally forget about it.  It's small (it really is the size of a credit card) and compact and has a lot of tools in it.  There are 10 tools: A Compass, a magnifying glass, a toothpick, a pair of tweezers, a ruler, a position wrench, a serrated knife, a bottle opener, a small slotted screwdriver, and a large slotted screwdriver.

Now, I'm not a tool person, so I honestly don't "know" what to do with half this stuff, but I know it's one of those things that I can need sometimes.  The biggest positive about this is that it's functional and compact. You can't help but realize that as you pull out each of the slots and think "wait, there's more?" I'm not really sure how they fit all the items in here, but the major drawback of this is that the size of it also limits the function.  I don't see this being something that you'd pack on a camping trip or anything.  The knife works, but it doesn't work great.  The compass works but it's not going to navigate you anywhere complicated, etc.  This is more of an emergency tool, and a good one at that.  It is made out of plastic, but the knife and bottle cap opener are steel (as well as the glass from the magnifying glass), but it does have a sturdy feeling in your hand.  When it's compacted, it does protect everything nicely, which is always a good thing.  I would highly recommend this to slide in an emergency kit, car, backpack, etc.

Here's a rundown of the tools included:

1. A Compass: I'm not an outdoors person and I don't think I ever will be.  If I need to find my way, I have a gps.  That being said, I also have a pretty good sense of North/South/East/West in a general direction.  The compass is really not going to tell you much more than that, as it's a little wobbly and unstable.  It is, however, a useful tool for general knowledge.

2. Magnifying Glass: Here again, this is a good tool, but it's not going to be excessively useful.  You'll be able to magnify a very small area, but that's it.  It won't be useful to see large areas, and if magnifying is something you need often, I'd consider a better, bigger tool.

3. A Toothpick: The idea of picking my teeth with this and not washing it religiously kind of grosses
me out.  Actually, the idea of reusing a toothpick at all does!  BUT, in a tight situation? Sure, I'd probably use it, which makes it handy.  The problem is that it takes a LOT to get this sucker out of the case.  That being said, it's basically useless, but hey, in an emergency popcorn-stuck-in-the-teeth situation? Sure, I'll use it (if I can get it out!)

4. Tweezers:  Ouch.  Here's my biggest "No" of this set.  I use tweezers
CONSTANTLY, and there's nothing I love more than a good set.  This is NOT a good set.  They're plastic and wimpy and puny and honestly excessively hard to use. I don't know how you would even really use these.

5. Ruler: On the back of the tool are two rulers: one is a 3 Inch ruler and the other a 6 cm Ruler.  This is fine and useful to have, but it is also a bit hard to see.  If the numbers were painted or something like that, this would be a lot more useful.  They aren't though, so unless you're in good light, this might be fairly hard to use.  If you've got good eyes, good light, or you really need something in a pinch? This will definitely come in handy.  Do you use rulers a lot? No? Perfect. This will be just fine.  Yes? Just buy a ruler from the dollar store…

6. Position Wrench: Not going to lie, guys.  What is a position wrench? Beats me!  I'm not a tool
person.  I really had to look this up.  I know, I'm terrible!  It's a wrench, by the way.  You use it as a wrench.  It works.  I'm not really an expert to tell you how well it works, but hey.  It's there in an emergency!

7. Serrated Knife: This is my favorite part of the tool kit! I love having a knife on me "just in case".  And I'm not just talking about for a safety feature.  I always find I need something sharp to cut and NEVER have it.  There's a caveat to this though: Don't leave this in your purse/bag/backpack while you're traveling in an airport, anywhere with metal detectors, or anywhere where carrying a knife is illegal.  Don't forget about it! I can just see myself keeping this in a backpack and not realizing it until TSA sees it under an X-ray.  That wouldn't be pretty! But it's a great knife! I love how sharp and useful this is.  Another great feature is the little hook area where you can rest your finger while cutting.  There's obviously not a long handle on this, so without the little groove for your finger this would be super hard to use.  But it's got it and it's not!

8. Bottle Opener: Woo! Always a winner!  Yeah, it's not usually a life or death situation to open a bottle of beer…but what if it were!?  Ok, so maybe I'm just a lush and always love to have a bottle opener on me.  I usually DONT but man it's great to actually HAVE it. It's a bottle opener, there's not much to say but it's always a great tool!

9 & 10. Small & Large Slotted Screwdrivers: You always need a screwdriver, but who wants to go to your garage dig it out, etc etc etc.  This is a nice little set, but it is small and I'm not convinced it'd be a great regular screwdriver.  That being said it fit tiny screws amazingly!  So, yay for this!

So, there's what the tools are and how well they work.  Again, this is a great useful tool to use in emergencies.  It's not something that will save your life in an emergency, but hey, it's a nice thing to have.  You might need to cut something loose, find your way out of somewhere, or, let's be honest, crack open a cold one! These would make nice little stocking stuffers or small client gifts as well.

Brilliant Baker Decorating Kit for Kids and Adults

Product: Brilliant Baker Decorating Kit for Kids and Adults

Rating: 4/5

Tonight I'll be reviewing Brilliant Baker's Decorating Kit for Kids and Adults.  Let's start with my expectations.  As a cookie decorator who is starting to build a business, this is stuff I work with constantly and I'm pretty familiar with the status quo of quality and products.  That being said, it does say for kids and adults and I would agree that this is a great set for kids to use with adults.  However, it is definitely NOT a set for experienced adult decorators.  For kids though, this is a great item!

In the kit, you receive:
* a set of Mini cupcake liners (not sure how many, but at least a few dozen!)
*One pastry bag
*One Bag coupler
*Four plastic tips in different openings
*One (small) plastic spatula
*3 (accordion type) pastry squeeze bottles with lids
*One Dual compartment larger squeeze bottles with lid
*Four metal tips in different openings

Now, for the value (right now the list price is $14.86), I would say this would be a great gift or item to purchase for kids for decorating purposes.  If you're an adult who is decorating independently and has more than a little experience, I would not recommend this set at all.  You'll spend a little more money (though you can definitely save with discount coupons at craft stores!) to get an equivalent set of similar products, but you'll be better off in the long run.

Lets start with my favorite part of this set-the pastry bottles! You receive 3 of these, and I am very impressed.  As a cookie decorator, you can NEVER have enough of these!  They come with caps which are also always helpful.  These are my highlight of the set because they really feel like a quality set.  I have several different brands of bottles, but these feel like the thickest and sturdiest.  I have other thinner ones that have lasted for a long time, so I'm very hopeful for these as well.  The lids are always handy as it helps my royal icing not dry out overnight or while I'm waiting for portions of my cookies to dry.  I can never have enough of these, especially quality ones, so this alone will be my favorite and most useful part of the set for me.

Now, let's move on to the tips.  These are very so so.  You can get much better, sturdier, and better quality tips for about 99cents (or so) at most big name craft stores.  I always decorate with metal tips, so the plastic was very new for me.  I'm not a huge fan.  But again, for kids? These will really be great.  I won't have to worry about little hands destroying my good set!  The metal tips are pretty cheaply made.  I don't like when there's huge seams in them as it tends to make weird patters in my royal icing.  They also seemed to be bent out of shape as well.  There are several shapes in the plastic and metal tips: The plastic includes one medium sized open circle, one flower, one star, and one long pastry tip.  The Metal set includes a 3-4ish open circle, a closed star, a cross tip and what I think is supposed to be a leaf tip.  I couldn't tell because it was a bit bent.  Again, if this is a set for kids, I don't really mind at all.  They don't care as long as they make a big mess, right?

Next, there's a small plastic spatula included.  This is a good side for small hands, but definitely not for adults.  I will say I can see this being valuable in spreading my flooded royal icing, but I don't like the plasticity of it.  I prefer to decorate with metal, just for sturdiness sake.  Again, though, for kids, these will be perfectly fine.

There is also a (medium size) plastic bottle with two compartments.  This is used to make dual color icing.  This is actually a pretty neat bottle that I haven't seen before, and I'm excited to explore more possibilities with it.  I'm not sure how great it'll be for royal icing, but exploring is half the fun with decorative baking!

With the bottle, there's a neat hooking feature to hook the two compartments of the bottle together.  You insert the little tab into the hole and then turn it 90 degrees for the bottles to hold together.  There is then an insert/coupler portion that would hold the two bottles together.  Finally, you insert a tip and put on the plastic ring.  This isn't very hard to use, and seemed to work pretty well.

Lastly, it also includes several dozen mini cupcake liners.  These are so so.  I would have liked either solid white or some kind of design, not just some logo on them.  They're fine, but I honestly probably won't use them.

Overall, I think this is a cute set for young bakers, especially if they're always wanting to help you decorate.  This is great to have a set that you don't care if it gets ruined or broke.  It'd be fun to help little ones learn on, as the smaller bottles are better for their little hands.  If you're an adult looking for a kit for your own uses, look elsewhere, but for kids this is a fun and handy set!

Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies (Kindle Edition)

Product: Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies by JK Rowling (Kindle Edition)

Get it Here

Rating: 9 3/4 out of 5

If you're a Harry Potter fan like I am (or maybe even less than the completely obsessive one like me!), you'll love Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship, and Dangerous Hobbies. While it is short (by far the only negative!), it does provide some great backstory to the wizarding world! You start off with McGonagall, progress to Lupin, the Trelawney, and then Kettleburn (Hagrid's COMC predecessor). McGonagall and Lupin's stories are the most flushed out, as you would expect. These two are much more a part of Harry's story. However it is nice to hear snippets of information from all different areas. Again, though, this is short. It only took about an hour and a half for me to read it (with interruptions!), so it's a little disappointing in that aspect. When these were announced I was really hoping for something of much more length.

The biggest plus for me is that you can hear JKR's voice so clearly through the entire thing. It's nothing like Cursed Child. This book (and I'm hoping the other two!) just ooze Rowling's writing style, creativity, attention to detail, and love of the wizarding world. This is so refreshing after CC. I cannot wait to read the other two! I will say that some of this information has been available either on Pottermore (which I don't get to that often) or from other interviews, but it's nice to have it all together and on my kindle. My biggest hope for this is that they'll put these into print, either compiled together or with added information so I can add it to my HP collection!

Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide (Kindle Edition)

Rating: 9 3/4 out of 5!

Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide is another gem by JK Rowling. I've now read two of the three of these singles (Along with the Heroism, Hardships, and Dangerous Hobbies one) and haven't had a complaint about them. Ok, fine. I wish they were longer! I know a lot of the information in them is (i've heard! I don't get there that often!) available on Pottermore, but I have to "own" all of them…I couldn't live without having these on my kindle! I'm just hoping we'll all be blessed and have them all (and hopefully more!!) released in print so we can slide them in their rightful place besides 1-7, The Tales of Beetle the Bard, Quidditch Throughout the Ages, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. (Ok, also Cursed Child, but I'm still pretending it doesn't exist…)

The great thing about these singles is that you can TELL JKR wrote these. After Cursed Child, it's refreshing to plunge headfirst into true, authentic JKR Wizarding World Material. Her voice just shouts throughout the whole single. It's so wonderful to have it back! THIS is what I think we all were waiting for when CC came out. Again, I just wish these things were longer!

Chapter One details the Journey to Hogwarts, including information on King's Cross Station, Platform Nine and Three Quarters, and the Hogwarts Express. Chapter Two Contains the Sorting Hat and Hatstalls. (Though, I would like to contradict the book here: It says Harry only ever knew two true Hatstalls: McGonagall and Pettigrew….yet in Heroism, Hardships, and Dangerous Hobbies it says that Flitwick was also a Hatstall. Yep, first time I've caught an error!) Chapter Three is The Castle an Grounds with The Hufflepuff Common Room, Marauder's Map, and Great Lake. Chapter Four is Lessons including Hogwarts Subjects and Time Turners. Chapter Five is the Castle Residents: Hogwarts Ghosts, Info on Nearly Headless Nick, the Portraits, and Sir Cadogan. And Finally, Chapter Six is secrets of the castle including the Mirror of Erised, Pensive, Philospher's Stone, Sword of Gryffindor and The Chamber of Secrets. I'm still hoping a few hundred more chapters will magically appear, but that's it.

This edition did seem to read 'longer' than the Heroism, Hardships etc single, but it still contained a lot of great information. Yes, some (maybe most!) is available on Pottermore, but it's definitely a worthwhile read, especially if you don't get there to read stuff often.

Lastly, I just wanted to give some hope for those of you who may also have not loved Cursed Child:
An excerpt from Time-Turner:
"As our investigations currently stand, the longest period that may be relived without the possibility of serious harm to traveller or to time itself is around five hours." and then it goes on to detail all the damage that going back more than that has caused in the past and why it is now banned.
HALLELUJAH Cursed Child was just all wrong and we can now wipe it from our cannon!!

Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists (Kindle Edition)

Review: 9 3/4 out of 5 ;)

Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists is essential reading for any fan(attic) of the Harry Potter Wizarding World. Before I begin, it's important to note that a lot (if not most) of this information IS available on Pottermore. If you just want to read this without the cost, head over there, get sorted, find your patronus, and read until your heart is content! BUT! If you're an avid collector of all things Potter, this is another jewel to add to your collection! My deepest hope is that this (along with the other two Pottermore presents kindle shorts) will be made into a printed book (even together!) so I can add it to my bookshelf along with the rest of the series. Why won't they just print it already!?

In all seriousness, though, this short is filled with fantastic information about some of our (least) favorite witches & wizards. This one is more of the least favorite, but alas, we can't just have all the good stuff. The book starts by detailing information about that horrible cow…I mean Umbridge. It then goes on to detail some information about Minister for Magics and Azkaban. From there you learn about Slughorn, Potions, the Polyjuice Potion, and Cauldrons. Then you learn about Qirrell, and finally, everyone's favorite Poltergeist, Peeves. I won't get in to all the information in them, but I always find the additional back story on these characters sheds new light on them when I re-read the books. It's so wonderful to continue to get new information from JK Rowling about the Wizarding World. After the fiasco that was 'The Cursed Child', new writing that actually makes sense in the universe is always welcomed with open arms. The best part about these shorts is that you can just hear JKR's voice whispering this information into your head as you read. It's HER, not the crap from CC. It's refreshing and wonderful and it definitely brought me back from the void after I read CC.

As I said, you can find all the information in other places, but it's nice to have it all together for collectors, fanatics, and those that don't get to Pottermore. If you just want the info for free, look elsewhere. If you want to have and keep it? What are you waiting for?!

Blue Key World Double Cable Clip

The Double Cable Clip by BlueKeyWorld are a great tool for organization!  The set comes with six clips, each with a peel and stick backing for easy attachment to many surfaces.  Of the six clips, most have stuck and remained sticking just fine, but one has given me a lot of trouble.  As I also had this problem with another set of clips by this company, I am beginning to wonder if it's not the surface or my use of the clips.  That being said, these clips are great!  I love the double clip feature of these as it allows me to organize the cords and chargers that I use together.  I like to keep all my apple chargers on one and my other chargers on others.  This is also great for desks and other areas where cords tend to fall and then you have to dig for them.  Gone are the days I have to reach my hand far down behind my desk!  These make it so simple to keep your desk and other areas neat, cords organized, and readily available for your use.  In comparison with these and the single clips, what I like more about these are that the cord hole is a lot smaller.  It's nice that it doesn't feel like your cord is too small for the hole.  If you have thicker cords it might be problematic, but the cords I use for most of my technology are approximately the same diameter.  These do a great job of holding them securely!  I do feel that it's a bit hard to actually insert the cables into them.  I would suggest that any cords that you're going to be leaving in the clips be inserted before you attach the clip to a surface.  Overall, these are fantastic for organization and work great!
