The Vive Bold Makeup Cleaning mat is a really nice tool to keeping your makeup brushes clean. I will give this ONE caveat. It's a great tool IF you know what you're doing. I purchased this because I knew I needed an easier way to clean my dirty makeup brushes, and was hoping this would be super simple and work out great. It IS both of those things, but it does have a huge learning curve. I had NO clue how to use this when I first got it and my first attempt to clean my brushes was an unmitigated disaster. This leads to my biggest complaint about this item: There is NO directions what so ever. The description says that there's 7 labeled sections for different uses…which there are. But they are SO vague. It literally says "face wash, face since, face refine" etc. And to someone who doesn't *really* know what they're doing this is way too vague. I would much much much prefer if there were a small instruction sheet helping those that aren't makeup gurus know which brush to use where. It's a little confusing.
That being said, once I called in one of my makeup expert friends, this mat worked phenomenally well. I loved it and was SUPER grossed out by how much makeup were in some of my brushes. Even some of my brushes that I had recently cleaned and not used since.
It's easy to use (once you know what you're doing), and paired with a good brush shampoo really cleans your brushes. It has nice suction cups on the bottom that hold really well and it's shaped perfectly for a sink. I'm going to use this religiously now, but it's definitely hard to really wrap your head around at first. If this had come with instructions and an explanation, it would have been utterly perfect. So, if you don't know what you're doing, look elsewhere, or at least figure it out before using. If you DO know what you're doing, this mat is great!
